What to Look For

Side-by-side refrigerators, as the name suggests, put the fridge and freezer side by side. Frequently, the freezer sits on the left side, and the fridge on the right, with the fridge taking up the majority of the space. This arrangement puts both compartments within easy reach, yet it is more difficult to put larger packages into the freezer compartment this way, such as giant pizzas or casserole dishes. It can also mean less space in the doors, since features such as the ice maker must fit onto the door. This type of refrigerator is amongst the most popular, though, and provides a good balance of fridge and freezer capacity for small to medium-sized families.
