In 2014, appliance manufacturer LG announced a partnership with renowned interior designer Nate Berkus, to be an artistic advisor to the company. At the Dwell on Design convention in Los Angeles this weekend, the initial fruits of the relationship are being revealed in a suite of kitchen appliances for LG’s Studio line.

There’s a gas or electric slide-in range and an over-the-range microwave oven, but we honed in on the LG Studio LSFXC2476S Counter-Depth Refrigerator.

{{amazon name="The Things That Matter", asin="0679644318", align="right"}} The Berkus touch is most visible with the stainless steel flat door design—no squishy, rounded corners here! The look will meld well with modern and contemporary design kitchens. The French doors are fronted by pro-style handles, heftier than most consumer fridges, lending a masculine façade.

A bit of functionality Berkus introduced to LG’s Studio line is seen in the water and ice dispenser. The dispenser is fully stainless steel—these are more commonly plastic. Notably, the door indent for the dispenser is both less deep but also taller than usual. This is great, as it allows for most pitchers, carafes, or coffee pots to be filled at the door.

“I’m not a cook,” Berkus explains. “I can barely make a grilled cheese sandwich.”

But everyone needs a kitchen, and the designer knows his way around a good-looking, contemporary home. An oversized water dispenser for a fridge just makes sense.

“I represent how to make a home personal, to make sure it tells the story of the people who live here,” Berkus adds.

The LG Studio Refrigerator has a generous 23.7 cubic square feet of storage, and the counter-depth styling ensures it will sit flush with any countertop for a seamless, built-in look. Other standard features include LG’s Door-in-Door amenity for convenience and energy efficiency, a “Smart Pull” freezer handle requiring only a gentle tug to access to the bin, and a horizontally brushed stainless steel finish.

The fridge is due in stores this summer, and will retail for $3,999. Check out our photo gallery for an up-close look at the new Studio Refrigerator.
