This is what happens when bros do science: They make (cheap) beer easier to drink. But who’s complaining? Certainly not us, because the Spin Chill is pretty darn cool.

No, cooler than cool... ice cold.

The Spin Chill is a waterproof, handheld gadget that’s able to chill any can or bottle to an ideal low temperature in less than a minute—provided you have a container of ice or ice water to spin it in. The device has a rotor on one end that clamps onto the beverage container of your choice, and a trigger to activate it.

All you have to do is submerge your beer, wine, or soda in a bucket of ice and pull the trigger. The Spin Chill rapidly spins the can or bottle, and through convection transfers of heat from the inside of the beverage to the outside. According to Spin Chill's creators, this cools the drink down 20 times faster than standard refrigeration—in as little as 30 seconds.

So, you might be thinking, wouldn’t that cause a carbonated beverage like beer or soda to explode all over you when you open it? Well, no. Because science.

Fizzing happens when an airtight container of carbonated liquid becomes infused with too many CO2 bubbles—usually as a result of shaking or agitation—and is then opened, forcing it to rapidly depressurize. At this point, liquid shoots out of the container because the tiny bubbles of pressurized CO2 can’t equalize, or escape from the liquid, fast enough.

But this doesn't happen when the carbonated liquid is rotated—or at least not as much as it would when shaken. Spinning the liquid more or less maintains the separation between air and liquid in the can, preventing the infusion of additional CO2 bubbles into the liquid itself.

The Spin Chill, it must be noted, works much like the Enviro-Cool V-Tex—a standalone device that creates a collapsed vortex within the beverage itself. This, like the spinning action of the Spin Chill, quickly lowers the temperature of the liquid.

The science checks out, and you can pick up a Spin Chill for a cool $30. Whether you're camping, tailgating, or out on a boat, we have to imagine a gadget like the Spin Chill would be appreciate wherever a fridge is lacking but a desire to drink is not.
