LG's latest home appliance innovation may be the best implementation of smart technology we've ever seen in the kitchen. Best of all, it's coming to the U.S. soon.

At IFA in Berlin, LG showed off the RF874SBSS refrigerator. It features a Smart View camera that takes a picture of what's in your fridge every time you close the door.

If you're at the store and want to check what you're running low on, just open up LG's HomeChat smartphone app, and text "Smart View." It will instantly send a photo of the contents of your fridge to your phone.

Other fridges have featured inventory management before, but required the user to enter in every individual item. Few people have the patience for that right after a trip to the grocery store.

LG Smart View is such a common-sense application of connected home technology that we wonder why no manufacturer has thought to bring it to the U.S. before. Sure, we saw prototypes from Haier and Siemens at IFAs past, but this LG is the first that we'll be able to buy when we get home.

Of course, there's a full gamut of other smart tech, including a touchscreen interface that can display pictures, and HomeChat connectivity for adjusting temperature remotely.

The fridge itself is very similar to a model we tested earlier this year, and features LG's popular door-in-door technology.

As long as it's priced right—and we have no word yet on how much it will cost—we predict this fridge might be the first "smart" model to seriously attract consumers.
