Whirlpool has announced the release of a beverage maker that marries the abilities of Keurig and SodaStream into one beautiful machine. The device is called the B.blend and can make everything from hot coffee to fizzy energy drinks.

The B.blend can make everything from hot coffee to fizzy energy drinks.

Like Keurig machines, the B.blend relies on capsules, or "pods," to create drinks. But instead of just coffee, Whirlpool has capsules for 24 types of beverages, including soft drinks, juices, hot teas, iced teas, non-alcoholic cocktails, and more.

According to Reuters, Whirlpool has spent four years creating the device in a partnership with Anheuser-Busch InBev worth more than $70 million.

Right now, Whirlpool is only releasing the device in Brazil under its Brastemp brand, but Reuters adds that depending on how it does the company may bring it to other markets.

B.blend Capsules

Despite having gone on sale in Brazil, the B.blend is currently in limited supply. Whirlpool is selling 500 machines for early adopters to help design new beverages. Each machine costs about $1,500 and the capsules range in price from $0.50 to $1.50.

There is no information about how you refill the B.blend with gas for carbonation, but if it's anything like Keurig or SodaStream, the refills will probably involve proprietary bottles.

Regardless, the B.blend has the potential to give both competitors a run for their money. With both types of machines gaining popularity, an all-in-one solution like the B.blend seems inevitable.
