A couple years ago, we told you about GE's efforts to build a self-filling water pitcher. It was initially produced by GE's FirstBuild crowdsourcing platform, and the initial version could be retrofitted into existing fridges.

Now, the company has announced that it's building that tech directly into its latest refrigerators.

GE is calling it the Autofill Pitcher, and it's available in two new top-freezer fridges—the white GAS18PGJWW and stainless-steel GAS18PSJSS. The Autofill Pitcher will hold 74 ounces of filtered water, and its self-filling tech means you'll never have to refill it yourself.

Well, the fridges use magnets to attach the pitcher to its dispenser (and detect its presence). When it recognizes the pitcher, it'll automatically refill without causing it to overflow.

For the time being, GE isn't saying whether it will bring the Autofill Pitcher to any other models. But if it proves popular, it wouldn't be surprising to see the pitcher come to GE's side-by-side and French-door fridges, too.

GE's GAS18PGJWW and GAS18PSJSS are on sale now for $900 and $1,000, respectively.
