Smeg is best known for its line of 1950s-inspired kitchen appliances, many of which we had the opportunity to check out at last year's EuroCucina in Milan. But back then the charming retro-styled toasters, kettles, and blenders were limited to European markets.

In October, however, Smeg brought its entire line of small appliances to the U.S. market. The collection includes a stand mixer, blender, kettle, 2-slice toaster, and 4-slice toaster.

We had a chance to check them out at this year's International Home & Housewares Show, and we came away impressed. It's one thing to read about Smeg and pour through photos of its space age appliances—it's something else to see them up close.

Fitting the smooth contours and vibrant colors found throughout the Smeg collection, each of these kitchen gadgets is refreshingly simple. There are no bells and whistles, and why would you want any with such design-forward manufacturing?

While their performance will have to wait for our lab tests, it's safe to say these appliances are meant for consumers who place design above all else.

There's something refreshing about a blender with a single on/off button.

It's clear Smeg feels the same way. Representatives confirmed to us that a lot of care was given to replicating colors across the entire product line. That's no easy feat. Certain machines feature a metal finish while others are acrylic—a factor that proves challenging for color matching.
